The steak dinner dud!

by Kristie

I was in college. I had meet this guy hanging out with friends. A friend of a friend kind of thing. He seemed harmless enough, and I was in college, and it was a free meal in a public place after all. so I said, sure, why not. He showed up dressed quiet nice. However, he also doned a 15 gallon cowboy hat. Now I'm not one to generally judge all though it seemed a litle unusual for a small town mountain girl. But I was ready for a good (Did I say FREE) steak dinner that I had been promised. Here I should tell you I was going to an Adventest college and they did not have meat on campus. Yum....steak sounded good. We arrived and my date spent the entire dinner listing everything that was so "wonderfull" about him. Why I sould feel so lucky to have the chance to be with such a cool guy. He never once asked me a question about me. So, by the time the steaks are eaten I feel like I have terrible indegestion (My Date). My date, I am sad to say seems to think the date is going very well. Finally the bill comes and he pulls out his card to pay. I thank him for the meal, and we waited for our waiter to return with the bill to sign. A few minutes later the manager came out instead and informed my date that the card was declined and that he would have to pay in another manner. My date then asked If I had any cash. Me, Have money...hah. So my date said How about If we just go and run to a bank and I get cash and we will be right back. Well, he said that would be fine for "HIM" to go, but that I would have to stay and wait for him to return with the money. I sat that night for 45 min. and waited for my date to return with the money. He never said he was sorry and still seemed to be acting like everything was wonderful! We arrived back at the dorm and just happy to be back on my turf. To my surprise he wants to walk me to my dorm. I assure him it's not required, but he said he would love to. We get to the girls dorm and he thanks me for such a great evening saying he can't wait to see me again ... and then... he leans in for a kiss. I jet my hand out, step back and say have a good night, turn and walk into the dorm with my date still standing there with a puzzled look on his face. He called my room over the next week several times. I never talked to him as I was never "able to come to the phone". Thank God for roommates!
